media in the tank and in the toilet!
On Consignment Editor and Veteran newspaper man Rick Ansorge criticizes media’s treatment of Governor Palin
Although I have a jaded view of the profession where I spent 20 years of my life — mainstream journalism — even I was surprised at the ferocity of the vicious media campaign designed to destroy Sarah Palin before she could even get out of the starting gate. The commentary I saw on the so-called progressive blogs — which seeped into the MSM in less than 48 hours! — even exceeded the vile attacks against Hillary Clinton.

Over the past few days, I’ve thought about how Sarah Palin should respond to the yapper dogs in the national media who are demanding that she submit to a round of press conferences.
If I were her, I would summon the TV cameras and issue a brief statement that goes something like this:
“Dear Esteemed Members of the Fourth Estate. Although I appreciate that you have an important job to do, I must respectfully decline your request for interviews. You’ve let it be known that my nomination for the Vice Presidency was greeted with laughter in newsrooms across this great land of ours. That’s OK. I’ve been laughed at before. Well, today, the joke is on you. Since you have demonstrated your utter contempt for me, and your eagerness to trivialize this election by focusing on unimportant personal issues, I will not take any questions from you until further notice. Between now and Nov. 4. I will only take questions from everyday American citizens who appear at the series of town hall meetings I’ve planned. Now I don’t mind if these questions are tough, but I will insist that they be serious. The real issues in this election — from the economy and war on terror to health care and the environment — are too important to waste precious time talking about things that have nothing to do with the well-being of the American people or the future of this great nation. So, for now, I kindly suggest that you take your cameras, recorders, and notebooks and stick them where the sun don’t shine. After I’m elected Vice President, I may agree to press conferences if you’ve shown that you’ve developed some rudimentary manners. But if you haven’t, I will happily once more tell you to stick your weapons of mass destruction where the sun don’t shine.”
Then I would smile, wave, and blow them a lipsticked kiss.
Of course, Palin would never do such a thing. But if she did, it would earn her millions of adoring fans and votes.
Because Palin is a conservative Republican, she has nothing to lose by denouncing a corrupt media culture that is bent on destroying her (as it did Hillary Clinton), and everything to gain by refusing to cooperate with it. Although there’s no way I can support Barack Obama because he’s part of the same corrupt culture, I still don’t know if I can support a McCain-Palin ticket. What I do know is that when Sarah Palin told a national TV audience that she was running for office not to earn the “good opinion” of the media elites but to serve the American people, I felt like standing up and cheering.

While watching both Sarah Palin’s and John McCain’s speeches at home, I did stand up to cheer and clap.
The MSM and the Barack Obama campaign are up to their old sexist tricks again. And, that’s why I’m Appalled.

excellent post! it’s the same method that was used on Hillary but more intense, the MSM trying to destroy Palin in a single week! it’s a tough move to vote R for the first time in my life but like a lot of PUMAs that’s what I’m doing –as you say there is no way to vote for that “same corrupt culture” represented by Obama.

Princess–anxiously awaiting your take on the RNC. Hope you get well soon!
Heads up, everyone … We need to push back on the narrative the media and the obama camp are trying to spin on voters. They’re trying to paint McCain as another Bush (he’s not) and they’re trying to paint Obama as being able to duplicate Bill Clinton. (NOT!) John McCain is no George Bush and Barack Obama sure as hell is no Bill Clinton.
The reasons given by the media and the Obots for voting for the annoited one can be summed up this way: Vote for O because he’s a Dem. Or, vote for O because it’s historic. Or, vote for O because he’s gives a good speech. Am I missing something here??? The in-the-tank-for-O media and the hierarchy of the DNC are doing their best to try and sell this guy. America’s not buying it.
PUMA for McCain

Everytime I listen to mccain/Palin I hear what
they will do. Whenever obama speaks it’s a generalization and a spin - he has no idea what he’s doing.
on September 6th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
I am so sick of half truths and downright lies being told about Governor Palin. I wanted Hillary to be sitting in the white house, not as the vice president, but as president. She was robbed by the so called leaders and the biased news media. I want to boycott the news medias that is responsible for her down fall. I also am tired of Oprah Winfrey and all her millions. She seems to have the idea that she is God and whatever she speaks is the law. I just heard that she said she would not have Gov Palin on her talk show until after the election. Who told Oprah that Sarah Palin wanted to be on her show? She needs to be treated like I plan to treat the Democratic party this November. IGNORED!
I will vote Republican and I will watch anything on TV except Oprah. I am finished with her and I ask all persons
that respect women and the idea of our rights being fully recognized to join me in cutting Oprah from your lives.
on September 6th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
For the first time in 41 years, I am not voting Democrat…this party did not immediately stop the sexist remarks used on Hillary Clinton…they allowed it to continue and then they threw their support along with Oprah and the ‘great’ Kennedy’s to Obama…they remind me of the husband who decides after difficult years with his wife that he would rather start over new with a new wife than work through the marriage…
The Republicans stopped the sexists remarks about Sara Palin immediately!!!

on September 6th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
ms…good news…the ellen intvu should be very interesting…….does she at least stand for civil unions?
hasselback loves, loves, loves palin — no surprise there! She’ll run circles around those gals!
on September 6th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
I like Palin. I like McCain. I’m voting for my Democratic congressional delegation. And I’m pulling the lever for the GOP ticket. Screw Obama and his arrogance. HRC in 2012.
IF we have a veto-proof congress, I’d love having a woman VP. And McCain is not so bad. I want to send a double-barreled message: The presidency is irrelevant if the congress does its job. And here’s the deal — Palin has declared war on Big Oil. What is NOT to like about that? Oil should be a national utility. It’s about damn time.

ms mississippi ,
Well said! I also love how they don’t make a big deal about McCain’s biggest flip-flop! He opposed overturning Roe v Wade in 2000!! He’s just pandering to his base! Even if he nominates conservative judges, they have to be approved by the Senate. That’s right, the Democratic “do nothing” Senate! Also, they didn’t care that some Clinton supporters were already going to McCain before Palin(like me)! When he put a woman on the ticket abortion became the #1 issue! They are crazy! I’m Independent and there are a such thing as “Reagan Democrats”! Their name says it all, they like me are SWING voters! Of coarse everytime they discuss it on t.v., they say NO Clinton supporter could want to vote for McCain! There they go putting people in “groups” again! You guys have to save your Party. The Democrats used to be the big tent, fighting for everyone’s rights and poor people Party. Now they are the abortion Party and that’s it!
on September 7th, 2008 at 12:01 am
McCain would probably give Hillary a promotion before Obama would. We all know Obama doesn’t like her, but she and McCain really are friends! McCain is also known for working with Democrats and going with them on issues, that’s the problem his Party has with him! He has a record of doing the things Obama talks about. I’m not hard right, and I most likely wouldn’t have voted for any Republican this year other than McCain. I don’t really see him as a Republican, and his record shows he can work across Party lines for us!
on September 7th, 2008 at 12:18 am
to me this election is about saving our democracy
obama gets in with the shady things them Dem’s have been pulling lately
if the chosen one gets in you can kiss those values away
go pumas .

McCain/Palin pretty much its sad but you realy cant belive the news anymore. or trust it . now there just a bunch of atack dogs for the pied piper .
on September 7th, 2008 at 12:42 am
So true!
on September 7th, 2008 at 12:53 am
I am telling you that before we can worry about abortion rights, and some of those things, we have to worry about basic ideals, like honesty, fairness. I have to say that McCain-Palin has it all over BO and Biden on that score.
I watched Greta’s piece on Palin tonight, and heard Palin talking about Iraq, she said she supported the troops mission in Iraq and hoped that we had a good exit strategy for the war. This was taped in Feb.. It doesn’t sound like Bush-Cheney to me. I care about abortion right, but a group of misogynists are not the people to protect women’s rights.
Let’s look at the bigger picture, and protect the country before we continue the argument about other issues. There will always be something else for us to debate, this is not the time to fall for sweet talk from people who have lied and cheated their way to where they are now.
on September 7th, 2008 at 12:58 am
#16 hireheels,
I can’t say for sure but I read some stuff about Palin long before McCain picked her and it said that she vetoed a bill as Governor that would have denied benefits to same same couples! I thought that was cool, especially since I’m gay. I got it from two sources. One said she had gay fiends and thought it was the right thing to do and the other said it was a constitutional issue only. Of coarse when I try to search anything about her now on the issue it says she strictly opposes it(she probably does) and she wants to burn us at the stake(not buying that one). I do know that McCain opposes civil unions fro a personal world view perspective, but thinks state’s should decide because he doesn’t believe in government controlling our lives! Obama is for them from a personal world view, but thinks that state’s should decide from a constitutional perspective. So, two different personal views and the exact same solution! That’s of coarse not how the left tells it. One of th latest smears on Palin is she burned books she didn’t find appropriate at the Alaskan library including “To Kill A Mockingbird” .That’s not true, like the other rumors going around the internet and media! The media has become as reliable as the Daily Kos. That is how the pregnancy story was pushed out of her. The media was actually going to run with the story that Palin’s son Trig was really her grandson and their “credible” source was the Daily Kos! So, she told them the real story they were going to have to release soon anyway!
on September 7th, 2008 at 1:02 am
warrior princess,
You go girl, you’re fired up! They act like we’ve never had a Republican President before! They really can’t treat women the way they do and then threaten them into submission! John McCain said at the end of his speech”Stand up and fight!Fight with me!Fight for each other”! He gave me a shiver up my leg– take that Chris Matthews!

I really believe a storm is on the horizon for the Obama camp and he is preparing to weather it out.
Last Thursday Senator Obama was interviewed by Fox News Bill O’Reilly. The interview has already aired it’s 1st of 4 segments. Mon, Tues, Weds will be the next 3. Finally, we will have a Journalist who will ask tougher questions rather than asking the Senator what his wife will be wearing the night of his acceptance speech (CBS’s Harry Smith asked that lame question). Anyway, judging by what Senator Obama has been saying out on the trail since the O’Reilly interview I do believe your man’s downward spiral is in the beginning stages. Now, most “informed” people know of the Senators “less than patriotic” associations. Judging by what the Senator put out on 5 Sept, a day after the O’Reilly interview, it seems he is attempting to smooth over what O’Reilly may have exposed (Bill Ayers).
Read Below:
“I know that I’m not your typical presidential candidate,” Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told executives and employees of the Schott glass company Friday afternoon, “and I just want to be honest with you. I know that.”
“And I know that the temptation is to say, ‘You know what? …The guy hasn’t been there that long in Washington.,’ You know, ‘he’s got funny name,’ You know, ‘we’re not sure about him,’” Obama continued. “And that’s what the Republicans, when they say, ‘This isn’t about issues, it’s about personalities,’ what they’re really saying is, ‘We’re going to try to scare people about Barack. So we’re going to say that you know, maybe he’s got Muslim connections or we’re going to say that, you know, he hangs out with radicals or he’s not patriotic.’
Obama should have picked Hillary with her he may have been able to weather this out!
on September 7th, 2008 at 7:40 am
theodore yea obama playing the fear & race cards& evertime hes says that some olf bs you forgot the one where hes said & “did i mention hes black” as far as hillary being on the ticket with him . im glad he did,t pick her she probley would have turned him down anyway. i say let the bum crash & burn
on September 7th, 2008 at 7:41 am
good morning everyone
on September 7th, 2008 at 10:06 am
Boogie,
Actually, I am reading beyond the obvious in what he was telling that audience. My point being, he made this comment the day after the O’Reilly interview and this is what jumps out at me:
“I’m not your typical presidential candidate”
“and I just want to be honest with you. I know that”
“This isn’t about issues, it’s about personalities”,
“you know, he hangs out with radicals or he’s not patriotic.”
Bill O’Reilly more than likely hit him hard on the William Ayers topic and this time the Senator couldn’t get away with, “he’s just some guy from the neighborhood” lie.

Love the blog - did you hear the last of Bambi? He said in an interview that he thought abt joining the military - guess he gets a bit edgy and tries to fish for some votes - pathetic! uh mh uh!
But lets get pratical - BO is unqualified for the job on so many levels (lets not even go there), the bottom line is: we dont want him in the white house.
Not voting helps to put the White house out of his reach, voting McC/P just pushes it a bit further away! Simple math! Do I agree with Palin – no. I am pro-choice, gay marriage, anti-guns, not religious, but you will never agree with somebody on everything, but the R ticket has more integrity then BO could wish for in his wildest dreams, EVER. So PUMAs and Caribous unite and shred the Bambi into pieces – don’t you love wild life?!
on September 7th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Great article PWP… and spot on!
Palin has set the McCain campaign on fire… the GOP and Independents love that woman like I have never really seen before.
They love her like they love Reagan. It’s amazing.
on September 7th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Are y’all getting the twice per day emails from the dnc expressing shock at the way the Republicans are mocking and laughing at the community service, the “experience” of the ticket, the attacks, and all? What a bunch of crybabies! They think they are such great salesmen they can unload this phony on us. Not only is the “One” doomed, the egos of the Byrds, Kennedys and dnc shills are slipping down that same slope.
on September 10th, 2008 at 9:35 am
The media has forgotten this story, while “lipstick” reigns…
Remember the attorney firing scandal? And our chance to get Karl Rove?
Instead, we get this from Pelosi…what I have dubbed “flaccid bipartisanship.”
Another Reason to be a “Disaffected Democrat”: Pelosi Letting KARL ROVE off the Hook as Time Runs Out on This Congressional Session (Add This to “Impeachment off the Table”)
http://insightanalytical.wordpress.com/2008/09/10/another-reason-to-be-a-disaffected-democrat-pelosi-letting-rove-off-the-hook-as-time-runs-out-on-this-congressional-session/
Obama, Biden and the crew certainly aren’t inspiring…and Pelosi takes the cake!!! It looks like Karl Rove is going to get “pass from Pelosi.” Read what frmr. gov. Don Siegelman has to say about the Democratic leadership…as they throw HIM and democracy under the bus!!!
on September 11th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
insight - I’m in full agreement with you that the real issues are getting ignored.
Over on another blog, the response to the roe v. wade threat comments is that SCOTUS justices are nominated and appoint with the advice and consent of the senate, so, of course the democratic senate will prevent an abortion banner from being appointed … because the democratic congressional houses (both of them) have shown oh so much spine against the gop executive recently …
