The latest juicy gossip is that The Atlantic is about to publish publish 200 potentially embarrassing internal Clinton campaign e-mails that were sent during the height of the bruising Democratic primary (anyone care to guess who pirated them?).

The world now waits in anticipation to learn the shocking secrets of the Clinton camp’s inner sanctum, like how many donuts Mark Penn can scarf in one sitting and which episode of Grey’s Anatomy was Patti Solis-Doyle’s piper_in_pucci_bylinefavorite.Honestly, what new information will we learn from these e-mails? That the campaign was in disarray and at times incompetent? That they may have said unkind things about Team Obama and its nefarious tactics? Heck, if the DNC/Obama Campaign can inspire the creation of PUMA, imagine how the Clinton camp must have taken it!No doubt there will be revelations unflattering to the Clinton camp, delicious to the media and offensive to voters. As they say, politics ain’t beanbag, and no political operative from any campaign is a saint. But I can’t imagine there’ll be anything contained within these emails that will be worse than the outright fraud and intimidation soon to be revealed in Denver at the premiere of Lightsong Film’s documentary Audacity Of Democracy. Might this be the Obama camp’s pre-emptive strike?…

Further smearing of Hillary and Bill Clinton will only further alienate Clinton die-hards and risk offending those who grudgingly mounted the unity pony. And none of it will negate the fact that Senator Obama lacks the requisite experience needed to become Commander-In-Chief. Nor will they make us forget how the caucuses and the open primaries were gamed. (Democrat for a Day, anyone?) They certainly won’t change how Florida and Michigan were blatantly disenfranchised, just long enough ‘til Obama’s lead was locked in.

So I’ll read the e-mails that The Atlantic publishes, and I’ll probably wince a lot and wish something hadn’t been written. But in the end, I’ll still say No Deal.

and..when is the memo outlining the Obama campaign’s strategic plan to play the race card on President Clinton, the Clinton Campaign and everyone else down the line going to be published? Tim Russert had the memo. What about O’s contribution list, naming all his contributors here and abroad… When will that be published. Transparency Senator, transparency.

Good post, Piper. I’m sure there’s harsh language, harsher sentiment, and plenty of hardball in those emails. Guess what? That stuff’s in every campaign. Including the Obama campaign. Anybody who thinks the Obama pros are farting rainbows and belching cotton candy needs a massive reality check.

I have to wonder what’s the point of releasing these emails. Obviously, there was a mole (Patti, anyone?). But why arrange for their release now? Any operative worth his obscene fee would know that releasing these will create an even worse backlash among the most alienated Dem voters than the one that exists now. This isn’t unifying; it’s divisive.

I have mentioned the lesbian/gay rift a couple of times in the past few days, and am surprised that no one picked up on it until now. I was heavily involved in political activism in the seventies and eighties, and one of the first things I learned ( others tried to warn me) was that the black community does not play well with others, in this circumstance. If you have a gay or women’s issue that you are trying to highlight, they are apt to duck around you to appear in a better light. And forget picket lines, we had black people going out of their way to cross picket lines. I would go and talk to black community leaders and they would tell me that that is just the way it is. Yes, things have changed since the time I was mostly involved, but if you do your research you will find that the old black panther comment still holds true. When asked what the proper position of black women was in their movement, the answer was, ” in the kitchen, or on their backs”.

One last note here. These comments should never be construed to say that all black people are self-centered, or self-absorbed. There are millions of black americans working to help others, and millions who have stood up to the pressure that Obama is putting on all blacks to join in. If anything, I have more respect for those people than I can say. For 90% of american blacks it came down to a matter of race, but for 10% it came down to a matter of reason and conscience.

What I am saying is that the strident part of the american black movement has no use and no place for any other movement, and will not compromise what they feel to be their advantage just to get along.

minx–to answer your question as to why would they now release these e-mails: because they just can’t help themselves. it’s not enough for obama to be the preemptive/presumptuous nominee, his minions must also discredit and demoralize anyone who has the temerity to challenge him.

I’m not surprised. The Media sits on stories that help Hillary - Reverend Wright, Edward’s lies, etc. - but, they seem so anxious to exercise freedom of the press if the story can hurt her. I wonder what other stories they are sitting on? What if David Schuster had referred to MIchelle Obama as “pimping her daughter”? Would he still be employed? Of course, the Obama’s just happened, by accident, to have their daughters available for National press. They are spontaneous, but Hillary is a pimp. What hypocrisy!!!

Politico summarizes the atlantic article. sounds like advisors are trying to deflect blame from themselves:

mark penn, the top campaign strategist for hillary rodham clinton’s campaign, advised her to portray barack obama as having a “limited” connection “to basic american values and culture,” according to a forthcoming article in the atlantic.

the magazine reports penn suggested getting much rougher with obama in a memo on march 30, after her crucial wins in texas and ohio: “does anyone believe that it is possible to win the nomination without, over these next two months, raising all these issues on him? … won’t a single tape of [the reverend jeremiah] wright going off on america with obama sitting there be a game ender?”

atlantic senior editor joshua green writes that major decisions during her campaign for the democratic presidential nomination would be put off for weeks until suddenly clinton “would erupt, driving her staff to panic and misfire.”

Let’s keep this “90% of blacks” voted for Obama number in perspective. That’s just blacks who actually voted in the primaries, not all available black voters. It’s like saying 40% of white people voted for him. That would include Republicans who crossed over and the relatively small number of people who participated in caucusses. I think ninety percent of African American support owes more to p.r. than reality. jmo

I’m sure that BO’s site is being monitored by the R’s using Versionista. BO’s campaign is probably doing the same for McC’s. I do believe, however, that BO must be ahead in the number of modifications to justify his ever-changing policy clarifications.

I know I’ll get pegged as being sexist, but I think all of this complaining is doing a disservice to future women candidates.

Hillary ran a negative campaign and lost. She dragged it out to the very end, even when it was obvious she would not win. She spent herself into a hole. Now she wants compensation from Obama for all the mistakes SHE has made.

Now I have never been divorced, but I have guy friends who have who tell me this is just like their ex-wives who made their lives miserable, spent money like crazy, dragged them through the mud in court and now complain that they don’t get enough alimony.

Next time we have a viable female candidate, I think the Democratic Party may think twice, lest they be stuck paying Hillamony (like that? I made it up) if she doesn’t get her way.

  27. hireheels said,

great question jdona….i’m guessing it is a slippery slope - people transfer emails & info to their personal email accounts …. the amount of info that flows thru a campaign is staggering, making this not only likely but extremely easy…and this isn’t the first time emails have mysteriously leaked out….(now we know why Rove & Bush deleted millions of emails, huh!?!)

the origin of emails can be traced but I doubt the journalist will give up his source or the actual emails…we’ll just see the juicy content…

Here’s the joke for the evening, Boogie.

    The Coded Message

After numerous rounds of “We don’t even know if Osama is still alive,” Osama himself decided to send George W. Bush a letter in his own handwriting to let the President know he was still in the game.

Bush opened the letter and it appeared to contain a single line of coded message:

    370HSSV-0773H

Bush was baffled, so he e-mailed it to Condi Rice. Condi and her aides had no clue either, so they sent it to the FBI.

No one could solve it at the FBI so it went to the CIA, then to the NSA.

With no clue as to its meaning they eventually asked Britain’s MI-6 for help. Within a minute MI-6 cabled the White House with this reply “Tell the President he’s holding the message upside down.”

    Subject: Medal of Honor

PO2 (EOD2) Mike Monsoor, a Navy EOD Technician, was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for jumping on a grenade in Iraq , giving his life to save his fellow Seals.

During Mike Monsoor’s funeral in San Diego, as his coffin was being moved from the hearse to the grave site at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, SEALs were lined up on both sides of the pallbearers route forming a column of two’s, with the coffin moving up the center. As Mike’s coffin passed, each SEAL, having removed his gold Trident from his uniform, slapped it down embedding the Trident in the wooden coffin.

The slaps were audible from across the cemetery; by the time the coffin arrived grave side, it looked as though it had a gold inlay from all the Tridents pinned to it. This was a fitting send-off for a warrior hero.

This should be front-page news instead of the crap we see everyday.

pmm says: ” Title of the draft platform document rubber stamped on Saturday with no dissent allowed?

    Renewing America’s Promise

Allen tells us “The secret project……was launched just a month ago, and got to the printer with no leaks.” ”

pmm continues: “Ok, so if the project was launched a month ago how long has it actually been in the works? And what the hell was the point of asking for input from the public on the platform if the damn book had already been written? I wonder how all those folks who took precious time out of their lives to go and give input into the platform will feel when they find out that the platform was written and sent to the publisher before the meetings ever took place? Bamboozled I say! Hoodwinked! The damn thing was already written and gone to the publishers and the whole input from the voters thing was just a feel good exercise to try and convince the unsuspecting dupes that the Obama camapaign actually listens to the people.”

    More at:
    http://commonsensegram.wordpress.com/2008/08/11/we-have-been-bamboozled-again/

This is seriously screwed up. They lied, hid, and failed to inform this fact to the public. how many times does that make now. no wonder bo’s name was in the platform draft version twice, and mentioned repeatedly at the meeting to the point at least one lady got up and walked out. rather renders moot the platform survey that almost 3000 people voted on for iownmyvote.com to try to have some further input. it was all wasted and meaningless.

also, they shot down the banning caucuses amendment, wasn’t put up for a vote as not being on the agenda properly or in their jurisdiction or some pisspoor excuse. (wha? wha caucus problems?) I bet.

I left her a comment and said I hope jsnd jumps on this and puts out a press release or some kind of statement. their genuine imitation kabuki theatre is past old. america deserves much better than this whole sham. the democratic party: not so much.

It seems The One is having difficultly with his stance on the Russia-Georgia issue. This is not something I would expect HRC to comment on at present, but these are her press releases from April and March. Seems to me she understood the problem at that time. I guess when she isn’t around to go first, he’s lost not being able to say “I agree with Hillary.”

Just read the Atlantic article; what’s the point? there doesn’t seem to be any news in it, earth-shattering or otherwise. so, again, what’s the freaking point?

over at puma pac we are trying to help as many pumas get to denver as possible. in true grassroots spirit we are getting creative. if you cannot attend the convention but want pumas well-represented, consider donating freq flyer miles. they will be matched with a puma with limited funds to help them get to denver.

    Abstinence

When a young couple wanted to join the church, the pastor told them,

‘We have a Special requirement for new member couples. You must

abstain from sex for one whole month.’

The couple agreed, but after two-and-a-half weeks returned to the Church.

When the Pastor ushered them into his office, the wife was crying and the

    husband was obviously very depressed.

‘You are back so soon… Is there a problem?’, the pastor inquired.

‘We are terribly ashamed to admit that we did not manage to abstain from Sex

for the required month.’, the young man replied sadly.

The pastor asked him what happened.

Well, the first week was difficult… However, we managed to abstain

through sheer willpower.’ ‘The second week was terrible, but with the use of

    prayer, we managed to abstain.’

‘However, the third week was unbearable. We tried cold showers, prayer,

reading from the Bible… Anything to keep our minds off carnal thoughts.’

One afternoon my wife reached for a can of paint and dropped it. When she

bent over to pick it up, I was overcome with lust and I just had my way with

    her right then and there.

It was lustful, loud, passionate sex. It lasted for over an hour and when we

were done we were both drenched in sweat.’ admitted the man, shamefacedly.

The pastor lowered his head and said sternly, ‘You understand this means you

will not be welcome in our church.’

‘We know.’ said the young man, hanging his head,

‘We’re not welcome at Home Depot either.’

Just a correction on what warrior princess posted re women/Black Panther Party. I am almost 100% certain that was not from BPP. It was from SNCC. The BPP actually had women in important positions throughout the party–including national president.

#1,If they call this pandering to women, that’s fine, it’s time to stop pandering to the men. As far as Roe Vs Wade is concerned, it will never be overturned. There are too many businesses that would have to close , in particular, those involved in In-vitro fertilization. I’m a Hillary supporter, if Mc kinney had a chance I’d vote for her, but now I’m voting for Mc Cain and Palin. Smart move on his part!!!!
