I’d rather cocktail with Riverdaughter than Taylor Marsh, anyway!

Posted on July 23rd, 2008 in Princess Wears Prada by hireheels

Just how many times must HireHeels sharpen its stilettos this week?!? Rumor has it that Hillarista-turned-Obamanista blog Taylor Marsh is talkin’ some trash about PUMA chicks.

Blame it on too many Sex and the City episodes, but I pride myself in being a real girl’s girl. Sure I like mud, but only when it’s from the dead sea and being applied to my bod in a Caribbean spa. Slinging it at former galpals and other accomplished women feels kinda Pelosi-esque and most certainly McCaskillian. What have we PUMAs done to Taylor & Company, other than speak up for what we believe? Why must they resort to character assassination on mere supporters??
princess_wears_prada_byline
Clearly these ‘mean girls’ have taken a page straight out of the Obama playbook. If so, why? HireHeels didn’t ask the fleeing ex-Marshians to join the land of PUMA. They ran to us when they realized they could not support Ms. Marsh’s knee-jerk shift to, well, the jerk. And what they found was a sassy, safe haven where they could continue to support Senator Hillary Clinton and exercise their freedom of ‘choice’ for the remainder of this election.

Apparently that position is not respected at Taylor Marsh. Funny, I don’t ever recall criticizing former Hillary supporters who chose to throw their support behind Senator Obama and fall in line with the Democratic Party. That is their prerogative and ours is ours.

But hireheels gals know full well that principles don’t simply fall in line. Values don’t fall in line. Conviction doesn’t fall in line. People fall in line. Indeed, PUMAs start the line…and that line is snaking all around the blogosphere as it continues to welcome Marshians, Obamabots and any other creature alienated by Obamanation.

A few months ago I called and emailed Ms. Marsh to invite her to appear at an event HireHeels was planning in Philadelphia during the Pennsylvania Primary. As one of her biggest admirers, I wanted to headline and promote her appearance at a cocktail party called “Hilladarity” for gathered pro-Hillary bloggers. I offered my P.R. services to further promote her show, because I knew how many women would have cherished the opportunity to dish with her “live.” I did not take it personally that she didn’t return my communications.

Two months later, Just Say No Deal boasts well over 200 pro-Hillary sites and has created its own haven within a vitriolic blogosphere. Our media coverage has been so continuous and extensive, it has overwhelmed our modest volunteer organization. We are resonating with millions of disaffected voters and Senator Obama struggles to remain in a statistical tie with John McCain in many recent polls.

Don’t blame PUMA for having the insight to sense the troubling signs within the Democratic Party. We didn’t fracture the party. We’re simply revealing its fault lines.

I hope Taylor Marsh will let me buy her that drink one day. But ‘til then, my blog diva of choice is RiverDaughter, the ever-eloquent PUMA who blogs true to her convictions regardless of the backlash. I’ll be joining other PUMAs this Thurday eve at her virtual cocktail party. She’ll be serving up “Causmos” (for a $10 donation to HRC) and her usual sageness. No doubt we’ll all be a bit more shaken and stirred on the way home.

This is like political Fashion Week and we’ve made it to the Prada level for runway location and showing time. Some of the also-rans just can’t handle that our goods are growing in popularity and theirs aren’t.

You are right on target, princess. If their process stinks like last week’s catch of the day, it’s their fault–not ours for saying “peee-yooo!” and reaching for the lysol.

well said, princess! i am planning my own “open letter to ms. marsh” but you have spoken for me here so eloquently….

i thought “progressives” valued the freedom to dissent, to speak out on behalf of opposing views, to peacefully assemble…and isn’t that exactly what PUMAs are all about?

    you GO girl!

  8. on July 23rd, 2008 at 12:08 pm

Texas Darlin — while i am disappointed at the route TM is takin’ — it should never be anything personal …. it is soooo uncool to diss dissenters…. but do you really think they’d be mentioning any of us if we weren’t making news and a few tidal waves….. makes pumas even more determined to speak out — and as long as the media care to listen, we will keep on keepin’ on..!!

    Quote FROM Debra Bartoshevich….

“The Wisconsin Democratic Party is holding a conference call THIS FRIDAY, July 25, to make a decision about whether to allow me to retain my status as a Hillary Clinton delegate to the Democratic National Convention in August in Denver.”

The Wisconsin DNC is telling Debra she will lose her delegate status. She is fighting so she can vote for Hillary @ the convention. Please help Debra by immediately contacting the Democratic Party Chair and ask them to stop punishing someone simply for supporting Hillary Clinton:

She stepped in it, now she doesn’t like what is covering her: she, as a Democratic Party official, stated she was going to support Mccain in the general.

The Wisconsin Democratic Party is fully within their rights and rules to remove her as a delegate.

if you are a delegate, you should never, whenever someone can quote you on it, say you are planning on supporting the other party in the general election.

Refusal to support barack obama brings all kinds of interesting people out of the wordwork and knocking at your door….this is nothing more than more of the same intimidation tactics & thuggery being practiced all year long by party officials and obama supporters….

justziguy, we may be ‘used’ to it - but we’ll never succumb to it ;-)

“this is nothing more that more of the same intimidation tactics & thuggery being practiced all year long by party officials and obama supporters”

That’s crap - if the party is supposed to follow the rules, and you complain about candidate who didn’t follow the rules, then guess what - the delegates have to follow the rules too.
You can’t have it both ways.

Bartoshevich knew the rules, and knew her actions:

    • Violated party rules in expressing support for the other party’s presumptive nominee.

    • Violated party rules requiring that delegates be “bona fide Democrats who are faithful to the interests, welfare and success of the Democratic Party of the United States.”

    • Failed to honor a pledge that delegates sign stating their intent to vote for the party’s presidential ticket in the fall.

    HERE’S ONE LETTER :

    Dear Mr. Wineke,

I am sending this memorandum to remind you that our country, The United States of America, was founded based on the cores values of freedom of speech, the right to vote, and the right to protest. It has come to my attention that one of your Wisconsin delegates, Debra Bartoshevich, is being informed that she may not be ALLOWED to retain her status as a delegate for Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Let me continue by saying that never before in our country’s history has there been such a blatant display of election controlling and party maneuvering, in order to SELECT a candidate, rather than ELECT one……which is the will of the people. I will not regale you of what you already know concerning the Rules and Bylaws Committee, caucus fraud in many states, and the disenfranchisement of two key states. This is coming from the party that sustained a major loss in 2000, due to possible election rigging?

This is America, not Zimbabwe. The democratic party has a PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE, WHO HAS NOT SECURED ENOUGH DELEGATES TO CLAIM VICTORY. That is the purpose of the convention, and always has been. I refer you back to every convention prior to the upcoming one in Denver, when candidates’ names were placed in nomination with a proper roll call, no matter their vote totals in the primaries. Sen. Hillary Clinton received the most popular votes in the HISTORY of our party.

I urge you to uphold the principles of Democracy, and allow Debra Bartoshevich to REMAIN a delegate for Sen. Clinton, as that is HER choice, and this is a free society, or shall I say, used to be.

    Respectfully yours,

An American Voter in New Jersey

  17. justzisguy said,

it’s one thing to complain about rules when the other political party screws you over (florida) but when you are a party official, you don’t say in front of a reporter that you are going to support the other party’s candidate come the general election - it’s political suicide.

I’m friends with an elector in my state, and he knows this.
why does he know it? because he’s been stabbed in the back by members of his own party (factions in the party are ugly in the commonwealth) - so what does he do, if he disagrees with party leadership, on things that could get him removed as an elector? he never says them where they can be quoted back to the party.

rules still have meaning, as does the word racism, if only we make them have meaning instead of accepting that we’ll never get an even break.

Frankly, I don’t care who she does plan on voting for (we still have a secret ballot, for a reason), she should have known better than to say it, at least not until after denver.

and another letter to Dem Party in Wisc. from our own flowerchild:

    Chairman Wineke:

It has come to my attention that Ms. Bartoshevich, pledged to Senator Hillary Clinton, is in jeopardy of losing her WI delegate elected status, simply for retaining her right to vote as elected by the voters of the State of Wisconsin, at the 2008 Democratic Convention.

You are therefore, in violation of:
    Rule: #12, I:I
From: The Democratic Party Headquarters Delegate Selection Rules FOR THE 2008 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION, Issued by the Democratic Party of the United States , Governor Howard Dean, Chairman. As adopted by the Democratic National Committee, August 19, 2006.

Rule #12, I: I. No delegate at any level of the delegate selection process shall be mandated by law or Party rule to vote contrary to that person¢s presidential choice as expressed at the time the delegate is elected.

i lurked on the progressive blogosphere for months before i found the courage to begin participating it it. taylor’s site is where i ‘found my voice’. she always said that she would support the democratic candidate, but she also wrote a huge post on being an american first and a democrat second, so i don’t understand her animosity toward PUMAs. this guy was anointed our candidate after being dragged over the finish line by the dnc’s rules and bylaws committe and some anonymous superdelegates. i have a problem with that, and i’m not going to vote for him simply because he has a d after his name. a vote for him condones disenfranchisement and voter suppression.( i also don’t think he’s qualified, but that’s a whole other post) people should respect that and perhaps address it instead of demanding that we fall in line.

as for Ms. Bartoshevich, her vote is her own. i like what fdr said: rules are not necessarily sacred, principles are. (like the democratic principle of one person, one vote)

Taylor Marsh can choose to be a political prostitute. I, on the other hand, refuse to reduce myself to the status of a commodity. Her decision to insult HLF after all the money HLF raised for her blog is beyond the pale, however. Does she understand loyalty, or does she only understand ambition.

I love my integrity. I also love my shoe collection.

No delegate at any level of the delegate selection process shall be mandated by law or Party rule to vote contrary to that person’s presidential choice as expressed at the time the delegate is elected.

But that’s not what is happening.
She is being removed from being a delegate for violating the rules of the call to convention, published after the rules you just cited, which state:

“that the delegates it certified will not publicly support or campaign for any candidate for President or
Vice President other than the nominees of the Democratic National Convention.”
From section II.B. of the Call to convention, which Call has been cited here by headliners.

Piper: I for one love your voice!! Princess I got on. Don’t know what happened to block me at the office. Piper….about Taylor and her disregard for PUMA. I think they are afraid. Just like the women during sufferage, all gathered around and said they would stand up for their rights….then they were beaten down psychologically, so that many women just got scared and ran for cover. Vicarious reinforcement that’s what it is. In this case, these women saw what happened to Senator Clinton; they see what is happening to other women, they see what is happening to us, they see what is happing to PUMA’s regardless of gender, and they are just scared, I think. Anytime there is protest in large numbers, this is going to happen. We are afterall, standing up to the government; representatives of the government, Senators, Governors, and saying no deal. There’s going to be backlash but we can handle it. It’s happened before and not so very long ago.

She’s pledged to her voters from her district that her vote will represent them, and they knew she was pledged to Senator Clinton at the time. Princess can verify that, but I am sure that is what the e-mail said. We don’t have a nominee yet. O has to receive, what is it 2014? delegates PLEDGED at the convention.

Yaaaa……..I feel the last chapter of this book will not be so easy to swallow. Although, something to cheer you ladies up!

Frodo: “I can’t do this, Sam.”
Sam: “I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. ‘Cause sometimes you didn’t want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How can the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end it’s only a passing thing. A shadow even darkness must pass. A new day will come and when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something even if you were to small to understand why. But I think Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folks in those stories had lots of chances in turning back only they didn’t. They kept going because they were holding onto to something.”
Frodo: “What are we holding onto, Sam?”
Sam: “That there’s some good left in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for.”

good evening to all of my dear and ooohhh-so-uber sharp (meaning smart this time) heels. I personally think ms. debra from wi would served herself well to keep her mouth shut… but the word from way under the shoe box is she initially said something that was relatively innocuous and it snowballed into a glacier, but she did speak out in a way that could be interpreted as being against the “party” to whom she was sworn to be loyal… had she waited until after the coronation, I mean convention she would have been ok (except her tires might have been slashed– they might still be…).

Enough with the deb debate, we have other issues to address. I can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would target someone as genuinely decent as ms. heidi li jd, phd. she is a gentlewoman and a scholar. to ask that democracy be democratic isn’t a pissy request, it’s a cornerstone… i am truly disappointed in taylor marsh; she is the sad one not puma. she allowed christina cedeno to post on her blog without proper facts. shame on you taylor. they dissed will; they dissed princess— they would have dissed me too if I hadn’t been in the hospital for much of the beginnings of this affair to remember… yes, just like deborah kerr i didn’t make it to the top of the empire state building, i’ve been confined to the day bed crippled with injuries. i say, “beware to those who have assaulted my loved ones…”
i will be off the couch soon… my pen may be sword-swish-swift… but my tongue bights even quicker, deeper and harder.
i’ll get off the shoe box now… carry on star-spangled heels!

Now, if only both sides would hold true to what has been said many times: if the iraqi government we helped create wants us out, we should get out.

Does St John still think that, or does he still think we should be there for 100 years?

my life waits on the answer to that question.

i love this — from her sageness - riverdaughter:

The action plan for PUMAs is:

1.) Dissociate yourself from the party. Tell them you will not be a party to its self destructive behavior.

2.) Reflect on your values. Read the credo at the top of this site and create at better one. Keep the language general and inclusive. Concentrate on universal truths and beliefs. Avoid wordsmithing.

3.) Stick together. We are powerful as a unit if we do not fall victim to the psychological warfare that is about to be directed at us. Turn off the media. Avoid conversations with trolls. Stand firm and do not yield.

4.) Remember that there is a better alternative. Hillary Clinton is the strongest candidate for the party and the nation. She has a lot of support out there. The nation will rally around her if we let them know we are not giving in. We must not let her concede one inch. Stand firm. Send her your good thoughts. Send her money. Do not give up.

    5.) Spread the word.

I thought you ladies might lak ta see this, its a response to a column written by Maggie Gallagher Ah, Maggie. You ask, “What else can a guy like Obama do?” Having ears, you do not hear, and having eyes, you do not see.

Mark Morford, of the San Francisco Gate, puts it so aptly in his column of June 6: “Many spiritually advanced people I know (not coweringly religious, mind you, but deeply spiritual) identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment.”

This election pits Barack Lightworker against Darth Maverick. Simple as that.

I read that mark morford column. Then I threw up in my mouth a little. Normally I like the guy, but that was awful. Never, ever look to your political leaders to be messiahs (or lightworkers or whatever term you prefer). Very bad things happen when people willngly suspend their judgment and trust a leader’s every utterance and action.

As for the poor wisconsin delegate, I suddenly recall what Don Corleone told Sonny. ‘Don’t ever let anyone outside the family know what you’re thinking.’ No matter how unfair and over the top the obots were in arranging her dismissal as a delegate, she handed them the ammo. That’s why the operatives I know have such honest conversations only with their most trusted friends in some bar where the bartender and patrons would swear on a stack of bibles that they were never there.

A world citizen indeed! Now if we can only convinced Europe to take him then life should be good here. The more this whole thing develop, the more it sounds like a prophecy in a making. Must be part of his economic plan to import his koolaid to Europe as well. *sigh* …*shaking head* … are we nave? How repulsive can he get?

Hey Boggie, I don’t know why doofus is campaigning in Europe. He must have a bigger plan than being just the POTUS.

It’s funny how the words “world citizen” are being use to describe this lack of “common sense” which is coming from someone who is lack of “age of reason”.

True, there is no named nominee of the DNC. However, there will be one, and that isn’t John mccain, and can’t be john mccain.

That’s a nice try, though, but it’s the sort of sophistry that obama would be (and should be) excoriated over.

good on them, if they did so, but can anyone confirm or deny?
