hillary’s nuclear option: it’s the women stupid!
Princess asks again: "Should Hillary Dump The Dems and Finish The Job?" Tell us what you think
Hillary, why not run a 3rd party on society’s 3rd rail – feminism?
Truth be told, I never considered myself a feminist, but naturally I revere the legends. I have always said that classic feminism needs an extreme makeover (even a new label). Young women are supporting Barack Obama in droves. Like me, they may not relate to the earlier women’s movement. But sadly, they will face the same, if not greater barriers to success than their predecessors.
![]()
It’s time to educate these girls, but do it in a manner that doesn’t alienate them (remember how effective the “Mad As Hell” YouTuber was? - see shoetube). I’ll probably take a few shots for saying this, but I have never felt that organizations like NOW spoke to ME! WOMEN POWER – great - I get it!! Maybe I am waking up a little late to this, but the feminist message has always felt too militant and un-sexy (in the non-sexual sense). NOW is the time to reboot, rebrand, and truly begin a modern-day women’s suffrage-esque movement. In an article this morning with AP, NOW President Kim Gandy suggests that Hillary’s defeat would be a huge blow to some feminists. There’s that “F” word again. I would begin there…by relegating that word to the history books and re-launching the women’s movement with the most pervasive and creative advertising campaign this country has ever seen. And can anyone think of a better reason than Hillary Clinton’s continued candidacy to embark on such a campaign? "It’s hard to imagine that anytime soon there will be another candidate as extraordinary as Hillary Clinton," declared Gundy.
That brings me to the radical idea that inspired this post… A political party of the women, by the women, and for the people! Think about it… If Hillary were to dump the democratic party, like Joe Lieberman did, what would the fallout be? Or to look at it through a more sinister lens, how could Obama and McCain survive? Though she’s certain to lose white males (though not all) to John McCain, she would most definitely hold on to (and build) her female base. It may be a gamble, but an inspirational one at that. And haven’t we found that when Clinton plays the "inspiration" card, it tends to yield her more dividends??!! If Maggie Williams and Mandy Grunwald were to shift gears into estrogen overdrive, who’s to say that Clinton couldn’t steal from both Obama’s and McCain’s female constituencies? So chics, gals, chicas, girls, ladies, divas, goddesses, bitches, I ask: “would now be a good time to rise up?” Do we need NOW to lead us or can we come out one-by-one and ask Americans to finally HireHeels!!! How’s that for re-branding the women’s movement?!?! All we’d need is a few million bucks to start, an unlimited shoe allowance for our spokesgals and some pro-bono work by the ad gurus @ The Martin Agency.
Gosh it’s almost 10 am on a Saturday morning….guess I’d better wake up now.

I understand your thoughts about feminism. The way that it’s been branded really tarnishes a great idea. Equality for women. Great idea, bad image.
I too don’t, or until recently, have not wanted to be identified as a feminist. I just wanted to be someone who worked hard and was taken seriously. But this election sure has done a great job of knocking me upside the head on the reality of how women are perceived by those that I thought were liberal. Sexism is an equal opportunity hatred amongst the press and the big boy bloggers. I’m surprised that I feel so disillusioned by it all.
I don’t know about a third party. Third parties haven’t been all that successful in these United States. Perhaps we need to take the EMILY’s list model and apply it to women at the very local level to build up a core of women legislatures that can compete at the State and Federal level in the future.
I remember when I was still reading downwithtyranny.blogspot.com (dwt) before they went off the Obama deep end. DWT, who is a gay man, had a diary about a well off man in colorada who had huge list of gay friends who where willing to send money to gay rights friendly local politicians all over the country. They felt that a little of their money went a long way in these smaller elections. Ten thousand bucks goes a long way in city council elections where as in congressional elections it’s just a drop in the bucket. Perhaps we can try and identify strong progressive women and do the same?

Well observed thoughts Lisa D! It’s actually how the christian right repubs got back in power as well. grass roots efforts work if they are planted correctly and fertilized regularly.

you have my vote! the nytimes put itself in the obama column today - yet another media outlet to declare the race over - even though the dnc has chosen to exclude florida & michigan - which every sane, thinking person knows will end up in mccain’s column!!!!
the dnc is toast - they raised 6 mil to RNC’s 21 mil…in the last couple of months….my friends have all stopped sending money - “king dean” and “prince obama” knew precisely how to handicap the clintons - and they will get away with it….
If hillary choses to leave the dems - the media will kill her - since they’re transparently in the tank for obama…… either way, she loses as I don’t believe her supporters are convinced Obama is electable ….. so if she embraces obama, they can exclude my money and vote from the party

So you know Sinclair is the guy who claims to have done drugs and had sex with Obama in 1999.
Watch this video of a Puerto Rico show called Exclusivo. This is the highest rated show on that Island. Puerto Rico’s FOUR MILLION VOTERS AND 55 DELEGATES, coupled with Hillary wins in WV, and KY, will surpass Obama in popular vote. It will also cut his delegate lead in half.
Read this proof that the LAtimes has been sitting on this story for a while now.

john c….any proof of this for msm - it’s getting a lot of play on the blogs last few days….donald young, the black gay young choir master murdered - just days after contacting larry sinclair (the man who claims to have had several gay encounters with barack obama)….
the stranger thing about the story though - is the 2 other gay congregants from Trinity Church of Christ - a few weeks later…. apparently they all knew eachother and may have had dirt on senator obama….
anyway, that’s what the b-sphere is pumping out.

I, too, have felt truly discouraged about the unfair treatment of Hillary Clinton. I have been waiting for over 15 years for this brilliant woman to run as I believe she is the best candidate I have seen in my lifetime (41 yrs of age). I witnessed the voter fraud firsthand in Houston at the caucus, I am dumbfounded that the United States of America would exclude over 2 million votes from an election, and I am appalled at the lack of leadership of the party Hillary and her husband are affiliated with. I plan to switch to an Independent and will never return to the Democratic party again. Howard Dean continues to turn his back on the known voter fraud from the Obama campaign while disenfranchising voters and displaying poor leadership of a truly pathetic party with a very short term memory. Recall, the thriving economy and our respect from countries around the world under the Clinton years? Apparently the latte drinkers and wine sippers do not. The same party that presented Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry against the unified Republican Party are positioned for defeat again if Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee. I would be very supportive of Hillary going Independent. The Democratic Party does not deserve such a brilliant politician. Dean, Pelosi, Daschle, Kerry….good riddens.
on May 11th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
angie - you completely get it (and btw, you are one of the coolest chics i have met in years) - we are invisible to the party - in more ways than one - if they are willing to throw us away, well, then it is time for “plan b”…. my suspicion is that much of this was pre-wired…there is a LOT of behind the scenes strategizing that occurred to benefit obama - the head of the dnc is supposed to be neutral and supportive of all its candidates….dean’s been avenging his loss (and the media) since his implosion and now, he holds all the cards….i say let’s blow down his house of cards….gloves are off and stilettos are on…it’s war!!!!!!!!!
on May 12th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
riverdaughter over at riverdaughter.wordpress.com was having people reregister as unaffiliated/independent and mail in their torn up Dem card to the DNC. I may have to do that. I’m still undecided.
on May 13th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
there is a LOT of behind the scenes strategizing that occurred to benefit obama - the head of the dnc is supposed to be neutral and supportive of all its candidates….
hardly the first time I’ve seen that happen with an official party aparatus. I prefer to keep the details private, but I’ve personally been screwed out of something by similar shenanigans and seen politicians I support have to fight the so-called neutral powers-that-be who were sucking up to their opponents (my folks won, btw).
As pissed off as the shenanigans make me, though, I’m truly terrified of the kinds of supremes a McStain would appoint. So I’ll vote D in the fall no matter how hard I have to hold my nose to do it (I understand plenty of us can’t bring themselves to do that, and it’s your vote, so do whatever you really need to do). But the DNC can go pound sand up its ass for all I care. How do we foment a rebellion there?

I completely agree with this post. To be perfectly honest, growing up on long island, and attending a private university, I thought feminism was an incredibly out dated, and almost embarrassing notion. As soon as I started being pretty vocal about my support for Hillary to friends and colleagues I realized how wrong I was. I found myself frequently answering the questions like “are you supporting her just because she’s a woman?” and “Yeah… isn’t she kind of a bitch though?” and “..so… are you a feminist?”, let alone the way the msm spend the first few months of the campaign critiqueing everything from her laugh to her hair to her ankles. I’m just so fed up with the msm completely ignoring any and all gender issues in this race, and tripping over themselves to attack Hillary for pointing out Obama’s weakness with a key swing demographic. If this isn’t the perfect time to re-brand and re-launch a new feminism I don’t know what is.
I know this article is pretty old by now but if anyone has it read it yet, it rings even more true than it did when it was published 5 months ago

i voted for nader/laduke in 2000. we do not need another bush or clinton in in charge of the nation, no matter what gender. our country is not a kingdom and power should not simply be handed over to someone based on family connections.
on May 15th, 2008 at 10:09 am
as a lifelong democrat, i’ve never considered switching parties - I could never vote for McCain or any republican (for obvious reasons). But for the first time, I am disgusted enough to leave the democratic party for good….the so-called ‘party elite’ destroyed my passion for this party when they lined up against its most experienced and formidable candidate against the GOP. I no longer care what happens - but if Hillary were to go independent, of course I would support her!
on May 15th, 2008 at 10:23 am
Just because I always have to play devil’s advocate (sorry, I think it’s a genetic thing with me)…Do NOT underestimate the difficulty of getting a viable third party going here. Your concept of “rebranding” is valuable here, because there are lots of mainstream women who’ve been raised on a steady diet of “feminist=man-hating lesbian with hairy legs and no sense of humor” all their lives.
Feminism is actually quite strong in teens and 20-somethings, as I’ve seen in other online communities I frequent, but it’s different from our mothers’ feminism. There are so many styles and schools of thought that they frequently splinter from each other. Add the splintering effect to the historical mis-branding of feminism (and, of course, the TV-faux-feminism that says breast implants and pole-dancing are more valid ways to be “feminist” than, oh, say, voting) and you’ve got big hurdles to clear.
However, one thing is painfully clear. Nobody can deny any longer that hating women, publicly hating women, is acceptable across American culture. At least the ugly truth is out there where it can’t hide, can’t dress itself up in designer knock-offs and pretend it’s something it’s not, can’t play stealth games anymore. No more blinders, girls. We can’t put them back on.
on May 15th, 2008 at 11:58 am
….and there will never be a stronger reason to continue the fight, than Hillary’s continued candidacy - regardless of how improbable a victory would be…(even if it splits the vote)….there’s nothing left to lose….and by conjoining all the disparate groups out there under a new, positive message - you will be heard!
on May 15th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
obama is already discovering just how weak he is as mccain’s opponent - they’re killing him on israel….but he set himself up on that one - and the hamas meetings are not going to fly with the jewish community….please give us HILLARY BACK???!!!!!

YES!!! Hillary should run as an Independent and take this all the way to the the White House without those DNC fools. As an Independent, I would love to see such a strong candidate kick those “parties” to the curb and run for the highest office in the land.
Love the “I will survive” theme tonight. I can always depend on Hire Heels to get my spirits high.
See you in DC!!!

Wandering around getting high on the Chanel testers….
At this point, I’m feeling regretfully inclined to do less ‘words’ with our esteemed opponents, and more heading them off at the pass.
Sadly I somehow feel somewhat doubtful of reasoned letters having much influence with the DNC or the Honorable Rules Committee. Each mwmber will vote the rules that favor his (probably) candidate. If anything, they will count up who the writers seem to be favor, and adjust their allegience accordingly.
So maybe it’s a case for action and information, now and through August. The DNC and Obama camp have written off the blue collars, the Reagan Democrats, the gun and church people (as well as various colors other than Black). Now I respectfully propose to inform them of another group they can write off: latte Hillaristas for McCain.
To show them we’re serious, we’re thinking about a little ‘contingency’ donation fund meme. Each fund receives donations now to be paid out in September: to Hillary if she is the nominee, otherwise to McCain.
Could you maxed-out women pass this idea around, in the sort of circles that could implement it?
And to the GOP, who would be the real experts at this sort of thing?
Farewell now, I’m off to spread sunshine elsewhere….
(Giddyup, little pony, being careful not to kick dust in the direction of the Great Declared Victor.)

I’m all for a third party run, but I say, let’s go for it all if we’re going to do it! Lot’s of men would want to be involved in a historic third party movement. Hillary’s got the “T-fortitude” to bring all our brothers along, and women will see it as our generation’s suffrage vote! She should pick JOE SCARBOROUGH as V.P.!!! He’s a Independent/republican, he’s from Florida, and his personality goes well will Hill! Besides he’s cute as hell and he loves our girl!

I will never vote for Obama. He’s a skinny little coke smoker who thinks there are 57 states in the USA and calls women “Sweetie”. Well this little Sweetie has had it! Obama is a hollow shirt, backed by Wolf Blitzer and the CNN crowd, who, by the way, brought us the Iraq War. Mr. “O” is also backed by the Chicago mob and the financial wizards who through speculation, hedge funds, and other shady Wall Street instruments wrought upon the American people the mortgage fraud and meltdown and the artificial pumping up of the price of gasoline to $4 a gal.
How dare these male prancers and promoters disrepect Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has fought for over 35 years for healthcare and for all people of this country. How can they say the votes in Kentucky, West Virginia, Florida, and Michigan count for nothing? How can they say Hillary is losing, when already 17 million people have voted for her.
YES, NOW IS THE TIME for a THIRD PARTY. All 17 million should vote for Hillary and, once and for all, tell the males with their missiles, wars, and pop rockets that it is time to zip up and put the killer toys away. A woman is ready to straighten out your mess; bring health care for all; open up vistas of environmental and energy independent research and jobs; secure funding for the improvement of American infrastructure,….the list goes on and on.
A vote for Obama or McCain is a vote against your own self interest. IT’S THIRD PARTY ALL THE WAY! GO HILLARY GO! We are with you, 17 million strong and counting.

I just found hireheels.com and I’m “Stuart Weitzman” Lovin you ladies!!!
My feeling is yes, I am hangin’ on a precipice- about to leave the Democratic Party. I can’t even believe it but I’m as serious as …well, you know what I mean…about this. I’m also very politically active.
Hillary should leave the Democratic Party as well.
This country is long overdue for an Independent party. Heck- McCain almost left the Republican’s in 2001 as an IND or Dem.
This new party should not be gender biased however. Millions of our brothers, son’s and hottie hubbies love Hillary and are moderates as well.
Feminist movement rebranded with candy apple red high heels?
Count me in.
Infact, I’ve already come to the conclusion that I AM a Modern Day Feminist. It took the unexpected injustice of this campaign at every turn to get me there. This my friends is the blessing in disguise.
Not your mothers feminist if you know what I mean.
This site rocks! also from Seattle.

I’d love to I’d love to see a third party, with Hillary as its leader. The DNC now is a sell-to-the-highest bidder committee that ignores its own rules & has failed us and Clinton completely, What else I’d love to see is the end of the delegate system in which nominees are chosen by delegates who can & do sell their endorsements and votes. The nominee should instead be chosen by popular voting of the public.

I, too, have seen first hand that teenage young women–like my two nieces–and women in their twenty’s are so much more attuned to the cultural rumblings of a new feminist movement. Unlike those in their thirties, these young women do not see “feminism” as a bad word and are not willing to throw it out with the bath water, but are rather intrigued by the thought of a feminist movement. Yes, they too have seen how HRC was disrespected and mistreated by the media and party.
One of my nieces (16 yrs old) who attends an all girls’ Catholic School (Sacramento, Ca) initially was intrigued by Obama and even volunteered at a phone bank for him. But by the end of May, I was surprised to hear that she (and her entire school) was now an HRC supporter. I asked her why–and she said that after watching the debates and hearing her platform she was convinced that she was the better candidate. She turned away from BO because he just didn’t have the substance, and was very dismayed at how the media was pushing his candidacy over HRC’s. She expressed how disgusted she was at what she thought was mistreatment of this formidable woman candidate.

I’m male, and I’m with you in any way, including the “women’s party” idea, if you think it can restore Hillary to the front runner status that was stolen from her. She will certainly not be setting aside her committment to democratic principles, if she started a 3rd party run. GO HILLARY!
on June 13th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
She would absolutely win. The first viable Independent candidate. But she won’t do it. We have to take the Democratic party back. We have the voter numbers and the money numbers. The big backers are all Hillary supporters. Let’s go to Denver!!!
on June 15th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
To answer Princess’s comments. I think we should not make this a gender thing like the media has done.
I think we should push for Clinton because quite frankly in the next little while Obama is going to done and we will make Hillary the runner in November.
Once we get her in then we go for the equal rights amendment. That’s a better way I think.
and consider this:
FYI
We already know that Jihadist Obama HUSSEIN is not QUALIFIED to be the President, we now know that he is not ELIGIBLE to be President under American law. This is a great comment to a post over at Michelle Malkin’s blog:
On June 10th, 2008 at 8:37 am, legendx3 said:
Barack Obama is not legally a U.S. Natural-born citizen according to the law on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between “December 24, 1952 to November 13, 1986? . Presidential office requires a natural-born citizen if the child was not born to two U.S. Citizen parents, which of course is what exempts John McCain though he was born in the Panama Canal. US Law very clearly stipulates: “…If only one parent was a U.S. Citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16.” Barack Obama’s father was not a U.S. Citizen and Obama’s mother was only 18 when Obama was born, which means though she had been a U.S. Citizen for 10 years, (or citizen perhaps because of Hawai’i being a territory) the mother fails the test for being so for at least 5 years **prior to** Barack Obama’s birth, but *after* age 16. It doesn’t matter *after* . In essence, she was not old enough to qualify her son for automatic U.S. Citizenship. At most, there were only 2 years elapsed since his mother turned 16 at the time of Barack Obama’s birth when she was 18 in Hawai’i. His mother would have needed to have been 16+5= 21 years old, at the time of Barack Obama’s birth for him to have been a natural-born citizen. As aformentioned, she was a young college student at the time and was not. Barack Obama was already 3 years old at that time his mother would have needed to have waited to have him as the only U.S. Cizen parent. Obama instead should have been naturalized, but even then, that would still disqualify him from holding the office.
*** Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President. *** Though Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, all the other info does not matter because his mother is the one who needed to have been a U.S. Citzen for 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after age 16. Further, Obama may have had to have remained in the country for some time to protect any citizenship he would have had, rather than living in Indonesia. Now you can see why Obama’s aides stopped his speech about how we technically have more than 50 states, because it would have led to this discovery. This is very clear cut and a blaring violation of U.S. Election law. I think the Gov. Of California would be very insterested in knowing this if Obama were elected President without being a natural-born U.S. Citizen, and it would set precedence. Stay tuned to your TV sets because I suspect some of this information will be leaking through over the next several days…
DAWG! This guy really is about flaunting his illegal behavior in all of our faces, isn’t he?
Obama is done!!!!

I don’t think I look good in high heels, but I’ll give it a try for Hillary.
Personally, I think she will do well if she runs for Independent. Her strongest moment was at the end when the koolaid affect was wearing out, which is why the DNC had to intervene to reverse the course.
I can’t help but to admire this woman with the utmost respect. Her conceding speech was touching, yet I sense defiant while she remain true to the supporter and stayed loyal to the party that betrayed her. With those that are capable of any reflection in their mind to that event and what has transpire during the primary. I can’t imagine choosing any other person with such character to lead this country. It was a sad day in politics for me that day and I can only imagine along with her many supporters, how part of the American dream has just died or killed. It was absolutely painful to watch it and all I can think of afterward was, how can this happen in our country that profess rightousness to the world to justify our political agenda. Better yet, how do we supposed to expect the world to respect us if we don’t respect our own people rights? Sounds like a double standard to me.
“The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all.” - Thomas Jefferson

Hillary was mindfucked black ops style in that private, unrecorded meeting at Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s house. Hillary was all set to take it to the convention and then suddenly … well, we saw what happened.
Meanwhile, if Hillary did run as a 3rd party candidate…. and All the 18 plus million folks that voted for her stuck by her…. The power she would have in the fall would speak for itself.

Liberman has done very well–. Since people that engage in dirty tricks usually get it back with interest–can’t wait to see what happens to Dean, Pelosi, Obama, and McCaskell.
on June 22nd, 2008 at 2:13 am
I fervently wish that Hillary would leave the existing Democrat party and start a new, “True Democrats Party” or something similar. If she could be persuaded to do it, she’d have the support of at least 18 million of us voters. We don’t have the financial strength of, e.g., Oprah Winfrey or some other of Obama’s backers, but we have the numerical strength & wishes for a truly Democratic America. (P.S. Let’s not exclude the males–contrary to what the media would have us believe, many of Hillary’s ardent supporters are men.)
on June 27th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Whaddya mean, men won’t support her? I wear my team Hillary shirt now and then, and today I worked the Democratic Committee booth at the County Fair. More men came up to me and asked, “What Happened to Hillary?” When I responded, “a tool, chicago thug.” they gave me a wistful look and nodded. “Never voted Republican for President before.” “This is very tough.” “May just have to sit this one out: just can’t do it.”
on June 27th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
We’ve had this discussion before, and though I wish whole heartedly that Hill and Bill would leave the Dem party, and that Hill would lead a new Dem Populist party, the old Dem party has been there life’s work. some thanks they got, huh ? See Pelosi’s find hand behind this and her
cohorts for the power grab - Someone said Hillary was being held hostage by the DNC to work for the Zero…well put - it sounds about right.
Nevertheless, I’m finished, after I dont want to even tell you how many decades of working for the Dem party, and to get dems elected - I’m ready for a new viable third party - something like : The New Democratic Populist Party.
If only Hill would lead it - but I truly dont think, just as I could never vote for McCain, that she could leave the old dem party.

YES! Hillary should run as an independent. As Obama becomes riskier and riskier every day, and alienates his supporters more and more, the time is right to run independent. Bickering and Parties have failed our nation and are strangling us with $5.00/gal gas. An Independent, non-partisan President, with real goals in mind, that won’t pander to EITHER bloated, millionaire dominated party!
Sisters, the time is NOW. We would be stupid to waste this CRISIS.

Please dont call yourselves democrats. You would rather back a republican such as Mccain over someone in your own party. I guess if you liked the last 8 years then go for it. I went and saw Hillary speak in Madison WI. She was great, however, she lost. Its over Obama is our parties nominee. sitting around bitching about how hillary didnt make it is not going to help you in the long run, she has plenty of time left to become president. Her name recognition is amazing but you really spoil all the good shes done because you come off as whiney losers who cant take a loss.
